A man was arrested and charged with marijuana possession on 24th Street after he ran from police Tuesday, according to a Columbus Police Department report.
Officers was patrolling near the area of 24th Street and Hamilton Road at about 1:45 a.m. when he observed two men running away. The two officers called for the men to stop, but they refused to comply.
After catching the men, officers asked why the men were running. Demetric Thomas, 24, said he was running because he "had marijuana in his pocket. The other man did not give a reason why he ran.
Police found .6 grams in Thomas' pocket, valued at $6. Both men didn't live in the area and could not provide a reason why they were there, so they were charged with loitering and prowling as well as misdemeanor obstruction.
Thomas was arrested and given the additional charge of possession of marijuana. He was transported to Muscogee County Jail.
