A man was killed by a single gunshot wound to the face in a Buena Vista Road apartment Saturday evening, according to police reports.
Columbus police responded to a report of a shooting at the Renaissance Villa Apartments, 2701 Buena Vista Road where they found 36-year-old Vashun Lemont Ramsey on his back in the living room of partment A-5. Ramsey was suffering from a single gunshot wound to the face and was being administered CPR by a bystander.
Paramedics transported Ramsey to the Medical Center where Coroner Buddy Bryan pronounced him dead at 8:40 p.m. Bryan said Ramsey was shot once by an unknown caliber weapon and the bullet apparently lodged in the victim’s neck. He will be transported to the State Crime Lab in Atlanta for an autopsy on Monday.
No arrests have been made, but the case remains under investigation.
Ramsey, a 36-year-old black male, was listed as unemployed and as having a Swann Street address in Benning Hills.
He is Columbus’ 11th homicide victim of the year, coming just over a week after Derickes Maurice Miles was gunned down on Sixth Avenue just south of Fox Elementary School on at about 1 p.m. on Friday, April 19.
Shakeim Malcolm Dorsey was arrested later that day and charged with murder in connection with Miles’ death. A Recorder’s Court hearing for Dorsey was postponed because his defense attorney, Stacey Jackson, could not attend.
