An explosive constructed with a soda bottle and chemicals detonated at a Melinda Drive home Tuesday night, according to a Columbus Police report.
The 48-year-old resident called police out to his home on the 7600 block of Melinda Drive at about 11 p.m. after he heard a soda bottle explosive detonate in his driveway. The man told police he ran outside and saw the plastic bottle smoking.
A police unit scanned the neighborhood and did not find any other explosives.
Sgt. John Crump said Tuesday's incident is unrelated to a homemade explosive device which was found inside a home on Armour Road Monday afternoon. The case is under investigation.
