ATHENS, Ga. -- Florida scored a pair of runs in the top of the ninth inning to hand Georgia yet another heartbreaking loss, 4-2, Thursday night at Foley Field.
The loss, combined with Missouri's win Thursday, eliminated Georgia from having any chance of making the SEC tournament field. Georgia (19-32, 5-20) remains in 14th place, while only the top 12 advance. Missouri is 9-19 and Tennessee is 7-19.
Georgia had scored single runs in the fourth and seventh innings to tie the game at 2-2.
But the Gators opened the ninth with three straight singles -- the last of which by Harrison Bader drove in the tiebreaking run.
Josh Tobias later scored on a balk.
Patrick Boling took the loss. He had pitched three shutout innings before the ninth.
Hunter Cole had a two-out single in the bottom of the fourth. After a stolen base and an error, Cole scored on a wild pitch.
In the seventh, Brett DeLoach drove in the tying run.
DeLoach also had a single in the ninth.
The two teams will play Game 2 of the series Friday night at 7 p.m.
