Auburn, Ala., is among the top 15 fastest-growing large cities in the U.S., according to U.S. Census Bureau population estimates released May 23.
Auburn ranked No. 14 on the list, which defines "large city" as a place that has at least 50,000 people. The list considered population growth from July 1, 2011 to July 1, 2012.
Auburn is the only Alabama city on the "fastest-growing" list. Its 2012 total population was 56,908 -- a 3.7 percent increase, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

One Georgia city appears on the list: Alpharetta, at No. 6.
The No. 1 spot goes to San Marcos, Texas, whose 2012 total population was 50,001 -- a 4.9 percent increase. In fact, Texas boasts eight of the 15 fastest-growing cities.
