Columbus police once more have raided the same Warm Springs Road store their Metro Narcotics Task Force busted for commercial gambling on Feb. 28.
In February, the store at 2905 Warm Springs Road, just west of a bridge over Interstate 185, was named T&T Food Mart. Police Capt. Gil Slouchick of the vice squad, which conducted today's raid, said the business now is named T&J Cigar Store.
The issue this time was not alleged gambling but the sale of suspected "spice," a synthetic form of marijuana prohibited by the Georgia Controlled Substances Act, Slouchick said.
Officers executed a search warrant around 11 a.m., seized what they suspect to be spice and arrested Sujal Patel, 33, on charges of violating the controlled substances act and possessing a drug-related object, the captain said.
He said police have received continuing complaints about the business, despite the previous raid in which two store employees were charged with commercial gambling.
Patel is to have a preliminary hearing in Columbus Recorder's Court at 2 p.m. Saturday, Slouchick said.
