A Smiths Station, Ala., man learned he won a $445,431 Georgia Lottery prize after reading the results in the Ledger-Enquirer.
Curdy Dortch Sr., 61, matched all five numbers from the July 1 Fantasy 5 drawing, according to a July 9 Georgia Lottery press release.
"I looked at the results in the (Columbus) Ledger-Enquirer,” Dortch said in the release. "I was ecstatic, really. I was so excited that I couldn’t believe it.”
Dortch, a recreation assistant at Fort Benning, is a father of two. He plans to use the money to provide for his wife, Brigitte. "We’ll purchase a home and fix it how she wants it," he said in the release.
He received his ticket from C Mart, 4206 Victory Drive in Columbus, "from matching two out of five winning numbers from a previous Fantasy 5 drawing," according to the release.
He claimed his prize Monday at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Columbus.
Last week, a Georgia Lottery press release announced that a Columbus man won $1 million in a Powerball drawing. Ernest Thompson purchased the winning ticket at Corner Cupboard No. 0003 at 3857 Milgen Road in Columbus. The Powerball drawing was May 18, and Thompson recently claimed his prize at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Macon.
