Two men faced charges of shoplifting and obstruction of law enforcement during a Recorder's Court hearing Monday after they were arrested for attempting to steal 30 Blu-ray discs from the Walmart on Whittlesey Boulevard.
Rashid Ricks, 26, and Jacoby Wright, 25, faced charges of theft by shoplifting and obstruction of law enforcement. Their case was heard by Judge Michael Cielinski during a 9 a.m. Recorder's Court hearing.
An officer told the court that police responded to the Walmart on the 5400 block of Whittlesey Boulevard Saturday at about 4 p.m. after receiving reports of shoplifters. When they arrived, Walmart employees told police that Ricks and Wright had been spotted on surveillance cameras concealing Blu-ray movies in their basketball shorts.
Police apprehended Ricks and Wright near the entrance of the store. When an officer attempted to put handcuffs on the men, both of them ran back into the store. Police later found discarded discs the two attempted to conceal strewn throughout several departments.

Ricks and Wright were later detained. When police searched the men, they found several discs in their pockets. The officer was unable to tell the court how many discs were found on their person once they were detained.
Police and store employees gathered 30 discs total once all of the discarded Blu-rays were added to the movies Ricks and Wright still had on their person. The total worth of the goods was estimated at $586.50.
Ricks and Wright were arrested and given the aforementioned charges. They were taken to Muscogee County Jail.
Cielinski set both men's bonds at $6,000. Their cases have been forwarded to Muscogee County Jail.
