As the hype surrounding "Sharknado" continues to thrive, pop culture welcomes another shark milestone. It's time for Shark Week on the Discovery Channel.
The highly anticipated Shark Week kicked off Sunday night.
Click here for a full schedule of Shark Week programming. I'm particularly excited about "SHARKPOCALYPSE," scheduled to air 9 p.m. Thursday. Here's a summary from the network.
"Following one of the most fatal years of shark encounters closely followed by the media, SHARKPOCALYPSE examines the alarming trend of sharks moving in closer to shorelines and debates whether there is a connection between declining shark populations and the increase in shark attacks."
Never miss a local story.
I'm curious to see if Shark Week is even more popular than usual this year, given the recent "Sharknado" obsession. "Sharknado," however, did not air on the Discovery Channel. It aired on the Syfy channel.
Do you want to see more sharks on TV, or have these shows already jumped the shark?
While you ponder that question, here's a fun shark video I made in 2009. Retro shark programming all the way.
