Police rescued a 22-year-old woman from an alleged kidnapper Monday morning after he held her hostage at the Veterans Parkway Econo Lodge, according to a Columbus Police report.
The victim called police at about 2 a.m., Monday and told officers 22-year-old Demetrius Johnson was holding her against her will in one of the hotel rooms at the 1024 Veterans Parkway.
When police arrived, they discovered Johnson had a warrant out for violation of probation and contempt of court.
After officers were able to free his captive, Johnson was arrested and charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment, family violence simple battery, possession of a firearm during commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of marijuana.
In an unrelated case, Johnson was charged with child restraint, lights required, no proof of insurance, no driver's license, possession or manufacture of controlled substances, reckless conduct and reckless driving. He was then taken to Muscogee County Jail.
