Warren Steele of Columbus is one of 20 semifinalists in Mutual of Omaha’s search for its next commercial star. Steele, a retired Aflac executive, is leading an effort to bring free books to children in Muscogee County.
He shared his story on camera when Mutual of Omaha’s Aha Moment Tour came to Columbus in June. The tour visited a variety of cities during the summer and recorded nearly 1,000 stories about Aha Moments, according to a news release. Mutual of Omaha selected one semifinalist from each city.
Steele is a major force behind the Muscogee County chapter of the Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy. The local chapter was formed in February 2012.
"Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy is a statewide literacy non-profit organization which mails books into the homes of children in Georgia, from birth to the age of 5, on a monthly basis, at no cost to the families," Steele wrote in a February 2013 Ledger-Enquirer opinion piece.
