Hungry? Today (Oct. 17) is National Pasta Day, according to the Internet.
The holiday even has its own website, which notes there are over 600 known pasta shapes.
It adds, "Thomas Jefferson introduced pasta to the Americas after first tasting it in Naples, Italy. He was the American Ambassador to France at the time. In 1789, he brought the first pasta machine, along with crates of macaroni, back to the United States."
There's a good chance you've already celebrated this week. Recent poll results suggest 59 percent of U.S. adults eat noodles or a pasta dish at least once a week.
What's more, 68 percent of Americans who eat noodle or pasta dishes prefer spaghetti, the poll results suggest.
Even though the carbohydrates that come with pasta often get a bad reputation, "carb-loading" remains a popular priority among athletes. Sure, maybe it's easier to justify an extra plate of spaghetti if you're training for an upcoming road race. However, Runner's World notes there's actually a science to the proper techniques for "carb-loading."
