A Columbus man who had been watching Spencer High battle Kendrick High School at Kinnett Stadium passed out Friday in the parking lot and died, authorities said.
The fan was identified as Nathaniel Carter, 71, of Columbus, said Muscogee County Chief Deputy Coroner Freeman Worley. Carter was pronounced dead at 5:32 p.m. of a heart attack on the ground in the parking lot.
No foul play is suspected in the death and no autopsy is planned, Worley said.
“He went down to watch the ball game and got to feeling ill,” the deputy coroner said. “He went to his car and passed out.”

Someone in the parking lot started CPR or cardiopulmonary resuscitation on Carter but it wasn’t successful.
“He died right there in the parking lot,” Worley said.
The Kendrick Cherokees defeated the Spencer Greenwave 28-8 for a playoff berth.
