Residents on the Main Post at Fort Benning and surrounding areas may see some smoke after four wildfires were ignited during training, an official said.
The fires were left burning in the A-20 impact area near Burroughs and Patton Ranges, sending some smoke to the Main Post along Dixie Road and 1st Division Road. Two other wild fires are burning at the Malone Complex, but they’re not expected to generate any visible smoke in the area.
Sue Ulibarri, a public affairs spokeswoman at the post, said the contained wild fires pose no threat on post. “They are not going to cause any harm to property or people,” she said.
Residents in the surrounding area may notice some smoke from six separate controlled burns in Harris, Stewart and Marion counties. Those fires are on private land and not part of any activities at Fort Benning.
