Joseph Johnson isn't a murder suspect, but his perceived similarity to one led to his arrest after he ran from officers Tuesday, according to a Columbus Police report.
At about 10 a.m., Detectives went to the Columbus Inn Hotel at 3170 Victory Drive after an anonymous tipster reported seeing a potential murder suspect in the area. Johnson, who was riding in a red four-door Nissan, seemed to fit the unnamed murder suspect's description.
When detectives attempted to stop Johnson from leaving the hotel, the 32 year old fled the vehicle from the passenger side and threw a loaded Mac-11 automatic behind the building next to the 3465 Victory Drive Taco Bell. He was apprehended shortly afterward.
The driver of the vehicle, 37-year-old Renita Johnson, tried to speed off after Joseph ran. She was apprehended not far from the scene.
Both Johnsons were charged with obstruction of law enforcement. Joseph was additionally charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Both were taken to Muscogee County Jail.
