Sitting in the Front Avenue Parking Garage past midnight led to the arrest of two men early Sunday, after an officer found two ounces of marijuana allegedly in their possession.
Shawn Bellamy, 22, and Kieran Russell, 21, both faced charges of intending to distribute marijuana, possession of drug related objects and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime during a Recorder's Court hearing Monday. Bellamy faced an additional charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, as he had a burglary conviction from 2010.
The officer told the court he was performing a routine patrol at about 2:30 a.m., when he spotted Russell and Bellamy sitting in a white Saturn. The two spotted the officer around the same time, and exited the vehicle. They started walking toward 10th Avenue, initially ignoring the officer's commands to come back.
After detaining Bellamy and Russell, the officer found 2.01 ounces of marijuana, a black digital scale and a .22 black revolver, loaded with five rounds.
During the arrest, neither of the suspects claimed the gun or the marijuana. However, during court, Bellamy claimed that the gun belonged to his mother. Russell claimed the drugs.
Russell's gun related charges were dropped, as were Bellamy's marijuana with intent charge.
Judge Michael Cielinski set Russell's bond at $5,500. Bellamy's was set at $10,500.
