Tyler Kirkman and Michael Young were not far from where they allegedly purchased illegal drugs when a broken tag light led an officer to pull them over, according to a Columbus Police report.
An officer pulled the 24-year-olds over near the intersection of College Drive and Cambridge Drive at about 1:15 a.m., Monday, after he noticed the 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier they were driving had a broken tag light. When he spoke with Kirkman, who was driving, he allegedly noticed the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
He asked the men to exit the vehicle so he could conduct a search. In the center console, the officer allegedly found 10.6 grams of marijuana in one bag and 8.1 grams in the other. The street value for the marijuana was valued at $187.
The officer also allegedly found nine pills — seven red, one green and one orange — in Kirkman's jacket. Both Young and Kirkman told police that they jointly purchased the pills, which allegedly contained ecstasy, and the marijuana not long before they were pulled over.
The ecstasy was valued at $225.
Kirkman was charged with broken tag light, possession of marijuana and possession of ecstasy. Young received the same drug charges.
Both were transported to Muscogee County Jail.
