The U.S. Marshals Service from Columbus arrested a suspect wanted for murder by the Chicago Police Department.
Tremaine Barnes was arrested about 9:30 a.m. Friday without incident at a home in the 400 block of Columbia Street in Columbus. He is charged with murder in a death that occurred on Jan. 20 and held in the Muscogee County Jail until he is extradited to Illinois.
In a statement, Lamont Ruffin of the U.S. Marshals said deputies continued to search for Barnes despite the adverse weather conditions in the region.
The arrest team also included marshals from the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force in Chicago and the Columbus Police Department’s Fugitive Unit.

Barnes was the first of two suspects arrested by the marshals on Friday. The second suspect was Eric Person who was wanted in an arson fire on Mason Street.
