A car chase from Phenix to Columbus early Wednesday led to the arrests of two juveniles and an adult on burglary charges, Russell County authorities said Wednesday.
Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor said Tyanthony Edmonds, 18, and two juveniles were arrested after the Chevy Tahoe they were riding in was stopped in Columbus after a chase from Wright Road near Sandfort Road. All are charged with burglary third-degree, bringing stolen property into the state and eluding a law enforcement officer. Authorities are still looking for two other passengers who fled from the vehicle near the Booker T. Washington Apartments.
The sheriff said a patrol sergeant was driving on Sandfort Road near Wright Road about 9 a.m. when he saw some suspicious individuals.
“He saw a vehicle and some guys that looked suspicious to him standing in a yard out by the vehicle,” Taylor said. “As he turned to find out who they were, they jumped into the car and took off in a car chase. He felt like they were burglarizing the house and he chased them.”
The vehicle with five suspects inside was stopped in Columbus. An investigation revealed the Tahoe was stolen from Columbus. It contained a stolen TV, computer equipment and phones from a house on 30th Street in Phenix City.
