Alabama has one thing going for it: the Birmingham-Hoover metro area is home to the biggest million dollar homes in the country, according to one economist.
It's literally more for your money: as AL.com highlights, "In Birmingham-Hoover, the median size of a home listed for sale at or near $1 million is more than 8,000 square feet ... That's the largest median size for any of the 100 largest metros in the U.S." Birmingham's next two competitors, Toledo, Ohio, and Indianapolis, only crack 7,000 square feet and aren't even in the South.
More bad news for wealthy people who live elsewhere: "You could even take the median million-dollar listing from the four highest-priced markets -- New York, San Francisco, Honolulu, and Miami -- and fit all of them inside Birmingham's median-sized, million-dollar home."
This is all according to an analysis by Jed Kolko, chief economist of real estate tech platform Trulia.
But remember: Alabama is home to one of the country's poorest counties, too.
