Five people were arrested on drug charges in LaGrange, Ga. Friday, four of them following the search of a hotel room.
Charged with possession of methamphetamine were Laura Goins of Middle Street in Valley, Ala., James Gordy of Middle Street in Valley, Ala., James McDonald of County Road 166 in Opelika, Ala., and Andrew Keith Smith of Ware Street in LaGrange, Ga. Charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute was Steven Gearhart of 1870 Highway 18 in West Point, Ga. Gordy was also charged with possession of a Schedule II narcotic.
According to an official report, members of the LaGrange Police Department's Special Investigations Unit and Patrol Division assisted members of the warrants section of the Troup County Sheriff's Office with serving an arrest warrant at the Quality Inn and Suites on Jameson Drive.
During the service of the warrant, several occupants were found to be in the room. They were identified as Laura Goins, James Gordy, James McDonald and Andrew Keith Smith.

During this encounter, drug related objects were seen in plain view in the room.
Consent was gained from the legal tenant of the room.
During the search, numerous smoking devices and an amount of methamphetamine was located within the room.
During the investigation that was started by the special investigations unit, it was determined that all occupants were in the room smoking methamphetamine when officers arrived.
A search of Gordy's car also revealed another smoking device as well as Methadone pills to which he did not have prescription for.
At this time, Goins, McDonald, Smith and Gordy were arrested.
Information that was obtained during the initial phase of the investigation led to members of the special investigations unit coming into contact with Gearhart in the parking lot of the Wendy's restaurant on LaFayette Parkway. At this time, Gearhart was found to be in possession of methamphetamine in a quantity and packaged in a way that is indicative with the distribution of illegal narcotics. He was arrested at that time.
