The Safe Kids Bike Rodeo is Saturday at the Columbus Public Library on Macon Road.
The event is from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Helmets will be given away to children 14 and under as long as supplies last.
It is only one helmet per child and an adult must be with the child.
Itzel Berdecia, program coordinator with Safe Kids Columbus, said she hopes families will come out for this free event and learn about bicycle safety.
“Children will get their bicycles checked to see if there are any parts loose or missing,” Berdecia said. “They will be able to register them with Columbus police which will make them easier to find if stolen.”
Children, who already have helmets, may get them checked to make they fit properly.
Safe riding lessons will be available. There will also be material on bicycle security available.
Berdecia said the event is all about reducing childhood injuries. It is a time when a lot of children are out riding their bicycles.
A raffle will be held for Walmart gift cards and tickets for a show in the children’s theatre at the Springer Opera House.
