The March 2014 edition of the Cougar Roar earned a second place certificate in a national competition juried by the American Scholastic Press Association this spring. The competition includes schools from all over the country and is judged under several categories. This is the first time the newspaper has been entered into the competition and it earned perfect scores in 7 of 11 categories of "Content Coverage." Ryanne Cotterell of Columbus High School has received the Patricia Jackson Howard Memorial Scholarship. Ryanne was selected from several applicants for her commitment to academics and service to the community. The Patricia Jackson Howard Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Mrs. Howard, who served as the second Executive Director of istoric Columbus from 1989-1992. Th scholarship provides $2,500 to the recipient.
Boo O'Pry, Glenwood School, was the State Runner-Up in the 2014 Alabama Independent School Association's Golf Tournament.
