The City of Columbus’ Community Reinvestment Department, in conjunction with NeighborWorks Columbus, will hold a housing fair 6 p.m. Wednesday at at the Government Center Annex on 420 10th Street.
The event will be held in observation of National Homeownership Month, which highlights the importance of homeownership in communities across America, according to a news released issued by NeighborWorks. Those who attend the housing fair will learn about the home buying process, foreclosure prevention and various down payment assistance programs.
“This is great opportunity for people who want to learn everything there is to know about home buying process,” said Melanie Faison, Executive Vice President for NeighborWorks Homeownership Center. “Attendees will be able to talk one-on-one with professionals-real estate agents, mortgage lenders, housing specialists and attorneys.”
“Preserving the Dream” is the theme of the month-long observation.
“Homeownership Month is a time to reaffirm the important role that ‘home’ plays for our families and the neighborhoods where they live,” said HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan. “Owning a home has historically been the principal vehicle for Americans to build equity, start businesses, put kids through college, and retire with comfort and dignity. After all we’ve been through, we must stand by an institution that has helped build our nation’s middle class.”
