Columbus will host a meeting of the State Legislative Joint Study Committee on Critical Transportation Infrastructure at 1 p.m. Monday in Council Chambers in the Citizens Service Center. The public is invited.
The Joint Study Committee is comprised of five state senators, five state representatives and two citizen appointees. The Committee is Co-Chaired by Sen. Steve Gooch (R-51) and Rep. Jay Roberts (R-155). Rep. Calvin Smyre (D- 135) of Columbus also sits on the Committee.
The committee has been charged to study the conditions, needs, issues and problems of identifying funding sources to provide transportation infrastructure sufficient to maintain and improve Georgia’s economic competitiveness and quality of life.
“Transportation is one of the critical issues of the day. In fact, it will be one of the major issues discussed during the upcoming 2015 legislative session,” said Smyre. “While Columbus, Georgia, passed the TSPLOST, the rest of Georgia missed out on a great opportunity.”
