The Police Benevolent Association will be donating shoes to Alfie's African Treasures as the owner prepares for a trip to Uganda.
Police Lt. Joyce Dent-Fitzpatrick, president of the association, said the group will be at the Mission Square Shopping Center on University Avenue to deliver the shoes at 11 a.m. Saturday. The group encourages residents to join officers with donated shoes for needy children.
Alfie Jelks, founder and president of the nonprofit organization, The Soul of My Footprint, is making his fourth trip to Africa on Sept. 15. He will be taking shoes and dental supplies to east Africa.
Walmart already has donated 25 large boxes of shoes, Jelks said.
Jelks said he is still in need of donations for funds to ship items to Africa. To help, go to the website, The Soul of My Footprint.
