Speed may have been a factor in the Friday death of a 23-year-old man late Friday when his motorcycle collided with another vehicle on Victory Drive at 30th Avenue, authorities said.
Jeremy Dantrell Belk of Columbus was pronounced dead at 11:55 p.m., at the scene of the accident which occurred about 25 minutes earlier. He died of blunt force trauma to the torso, said Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan.
Police said speed may have been a factor when the westbound Kawasaki motorcycle struck the front of a vehicle as it attempted a left turn onto 30th Avenue.
The accident remains under investigation by police.
This is the second fatal crash at the location since Nov. 8, less than a year ago.
Scott Junior Miller, 87, of Columbus died after his eastbound compact Ford Ranger pickup collided with a Columbus police cruiser as Miller attempted a left turn onto 30th Avenue. Officer Brian Rowe, who was headed westbound on Victory Drive in a Ford Crown Victoria, was treated for his injuries at the hospital.
