A Columbus police officer escaped serious injury Saturday after his police cruiser went out of control on Cherokee Avenue and crashed into Weracoba Creek.
The identity of the officer wasn’t available after the accident occurred about 12:30 p.m.
Police Capt. Tony Danford said the officer was traveling south in his Ford Crown Victoria when the vehicle went out of control on the wet pavement and crashed into the creek.
Traffic was temporarily diverted on the Cherokee near Elgin Drive as the car was pulled from the creek.
