The name of the South Carolina man who died early Christmas Day in a single-vehicle wreck in rural Troup County has been released.
Jamal M. Wylie, 39, of Chester, S.C., was the only occupant of the 1999 Ford Expedition that crashed on Hillcrest Road around 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, a public information officer with the Georgia Department of Public Safety told the Ledger-Enquirer in an email Friday. The L-E previously reported that Troup County deputy coroner Derick Staley pronounced the victim dead at approximately 1:10 a.m. Thursday at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange. It was unclear whether alcohol or other drugs were involved, he said.
According to the public information officer, the state trooper reported that the vehicle veered onto the road's right shoulder, traveled out of control for 634 feet, struck three driveway culverts and overturned.
