Update: Both westbound lanes on J.R. Allen Parkway have been opened, according to Columbus Police Maj. J.D. Hawk. Hawk said fire, EMS and hazardous material cleanup squads are on the scene. He still encourages motorists to find alternate routes and use caution until everything is cleared.
The cleanup continues in the wake of a log truck wreck on J.R. Allen Parkway near Second Avenue, according to Columbus Police.
The westbound lane remain closed at 3:30 p.m. and police could not say if the closure will continue when rush-hour traffic picks up at 5 p.m. While the westbound lane is closed, traffic is moving at a crawl on the eastbound lane coming across the Chattahoochee River.
Never miss a local story.
"We suggest at this time people plan on taking other routes if possible," Hawk said. "There appear to be no serious injuries."
The wreck is in the westbound lane just after 1 p.m., Hawk said.
By mid-afternoon, traffic was heavier than normal in downtown Columbus and more cars appeared to be using the 13th Street bridge.
The Ledger-Enquirer will continue to report this and post more details as they become available.
