Former Hardaway High School principal Roger Hatcher, now director of the Center for Quality Teaching and Learning at Columbus State University, has made progress but still is hospitalized as he recovers from injuries he sustained after falling off the stage at Northside High School last month.
Hatcher has been upgraded to satisfactory condition at Midtown Medical Center and no longer is in the intensive care unit, Marion Scott, marketing and public relations director for Columbus Regional Health, said Friday. Scott cited federal privacy laws prohibiting her from disclosing any other information about Hatcher. His family hasn't been reached for comment since the May 15 accident.
In the Ledger-Enquirer's initial story last month, CSU and Muscogee County School District officials also said they couldn't disclose Hatcher's injuries, but, according to their accounts, he was at Northside to present a plaque to a CSU graduate who was selected as the high school's teacher of the year. Hatcher was walking across the stage when he fell into the orchestra pit.
