Colin Martin takes job as field representative for congressman
A longtime Columbus political figure has accepted a job working as a field representative for Republican Congressman Lynn Westmoreland.
Colin Martin, who ran unsuccessfully for mayor last year against incumbent Teresa Tomlinson, will start the new job on Thursday.
Field Representatives represent the congressman at events and meetings throughout the 13-county district that stretches from the southern tip of Metro Atlanta to north Columbus. Martin will cover the southern part of the district that includes Upson, Lamar, Pike, Meriwether, Harris, Muscogee, and part of Troup counties.
"Congressman Westmoreland has been a true servant-leader for the Third Congressional District and the Columbus region," Martin said. "I am both humbled and excited for the opportunity to serve his constituents in this role."
Martin previously worked in governmental affairs for the Greater Columbus Georgia Chamber of Commerce, before leaving to run for mayor. After the campaign, he worked as a financial representative at his own firm, Integrated Financial Strategies, LLC, and worked with his wife, Dr. Elizabeth M. Martin, in her medical practice.
Martin has long been active in the Muscogee County Republican Party.
The job opened when Theresa Garcia Robertson resigned to become a regional project manager for the Georgia Department of Economic Development, based out of Columbus. She worked in Westmoreland's office for four years.
"It has been an honor and privilege to serve under Congressman Westmoreland and serve the people of the Third Congressional District," Robertson said. "I look forward to continuing to serve the people of Georgia in a new capacity."
