Motorcycle officer injured trying to avoid school bus

An officer with the Columbus Police Motor Squad was injured this morning in a crash near the intersection of Whitesville and Double Churches roads, Maj. J.D. Hawk said.

The officer was transported to a hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

Hawk said the motorcyclist left the roadway to avoid an occupied school bus and crashed before 9:30 a.m. this morning. The two vehicles didn't collide, he added.

Authorities said some parents have expressed concerns about children in the nearby schools, but all of the children are safe.

The details of the wreck are limited at this time as Columbus Police continue to investigate the incident.
