Truck crashes through front window at Stone Furniture
A Chevrolet pickup truck crashed through the front window of Stone Furniture Monday afternoon.
Store owner Ron Dacus was in the back of the store on Second Avenue when around 5 p.m. he heard “a crash and women screaming.”
His wife Brenda Dacus was entering the business when she saw the truck coming up behind her toward the entrance.
“I heard the squealing of the tires,” she said.
She ran and sought safety between a couch and loveseat as shattered glass flew around her. She was fortunate to suffer just minor cuts to her right foot and left hand.
“I saw the woman behind the wheel and she had to really work to get out of the truck,” she said.
Police arrested the driver at the scene. Police gave the woman’s name as Kelly Butts but did not say what would be her charges. Police said it was obvious that she was driving out of control.
“She was going fast,” Brenda Dacus said.
Glass flew more than 20 yards into the store. Several pieces of furniture were overturned.
“We ever had anything like this before,” said Ron Dacus. “I am just glad nobody was seriously injured.”
