Columbus man arrested after 2-month-old found with skull fractures, bruises
A Columbus man allegedly injured a 2-month-old girl Tuesday morning at a Chalbena Avenue residence, leaving her with multiple skull fractures and bruises on her body, authorities said.
The baby treated at Midtown Medical Center before being sent to an Egleston hospital, where she is in critical condition.
Nijil Alston, 23, was charged with one count each of aggravated battery and child cruelty in connection with the incident. He was booked into the Muscogee County Jail for a 9 a.m. Thursday hearing in Columbus Recorder’s Court.
Columbus police said they were called to the hospital around 11:40 a.m. Tuesday to investigate an assault. A report said they found the 2-month-old victim suffering from multiple skull fractures and bruising on her body.
Further investigation indicated that Alston harmed the girl between 10 and 11 a.m. at a home in the 1100 block of Chalbena Avenue. No further details were immediately released.
