Surveillance footage of a car theft that occurred Monday at an Auburn business led to the arrest of a 19-year-old, authorities said in a news release.
Eric Lamar Nelms Jr. faces one count of first-degree criminal mischief and two counts of first-degree theft of property in connection with the incident. He was placed in the Lee County Jail under bonds totaling $8,000.
Auburn police were called to an unspecified business on U.S. Hwy 29 South on Monday to investigate a theft. Someone broke into a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe and damaged a fence on the property. A 2008 Ford Mustang was also stolen from the business.
Opelika police found the Mustang later that day, according to the release.
Surveillance video of the incident led Auburn police to identify Nelms as the suspect. Warrants were issued for his arrest and he turned himself to authorities on Monday.
