Columbus police say that 41-year-old Keith Andre Jones of Atlanta used stolen credit cards to purchase firearms at Shooters of Columbus, launching an investigation that resulted in his arrest Friday on 124 fraud and theft charges.
According to a police report, Jones was arrested by members of the Columbus Police Department’s financial crimes unit.
Jones faces 43 counts of financial transaction card fraud, seven counts of misdemeanor theft by deception, seven counts of felony theft by deception, four counts of criminal attempt theft by deception, 62 counts of identity fraud and one count of possession of drug related objects.
Authorities began investigating Jones on April 3. Police said after he purchased the firearms, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was contacted. After issuing multiple search warrants, law enforcement was able to determine there were 19 suspects in Georgia and Alabama.
The financial crimes unit was able to identify 62 individual victims and 22 businesses from across the United States.
Police say Jones would order items such as furniture, appliances lawnmowers, Yeti coolers, American Girl dolls, race car parts, construction equipment, clothing and other accessories. He would then sell the items online on Facebook, Yardsale Pages and to other contacts.
