A 22-year-old woman was charged with DUI after she struck a man early Thursday on Manchester Expressway, authorities said.
Kelsey Hill of Waverly, Ga. faces one count each of driving under the influence and serious injury by vehicle. She was booked into the Muscogee County Jail for a 8 a.m. Friday hearing in Columbus Recorder’s Court.
Columbus police said they were called to the intersection of Manchester Expressway and Hamilton Road around 12:34 a.m. Thursday to investigate a crash.
Authorities said Hill was traveling west on Manchester Expressway in a 2004 Honda Accord when she approached a red light at Hamilton Road. She began to slow down and the passenger in her vehicle told her that a man was in the roadway.
Officials said that’s when Hill struck him with the left side of her front bumper. The woman said the pedestrian was outside of the crosswalk and several feet east of the intersection, authorities stated in a report.
The man, who wasn’t immediately available to give a statement, was transported to Columbus Medical Center. He’s in critical condition suffering from leg and arm fractures in addition to facial injuries.
No other injuries were reported. There was moderate damage to the woman’s vehicle.
