Injured deputy recovering after struck by vehicle on I-85

Stephanie Masuoka, a deputy with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office, continues to recover after she was struck on Interstate 85 while investigating a wreck on June 22.

Masuoka stopped by the sheriff’s office on Thursday during a training exercise. She was walking on her own without the aid of a walker, crutches or a cane, according to a Facebook post. She is looking forward to returning to work soon.

Masuoka was talking to the driver of a wrecked pickup truck when aq tractor-trailer truck struck the back of the pickup. The impact knocked Masuoka over the guardrail and the pedestrian was injured. Both were transported to Midtown Medical Center in Columbus for treatment after the 6:15 a.m. crash near the 12 mile marker in Troup County.
