A man who has been on the lam for more than five years is back behind bars to face child molestation charges, authorities said Friday.
Andy Nowell, 52, was returned to the Muscogee County Jail on Tuesday after he was arrested in Easterling , Ala, on a bench warrant. He was charged with one count of child molestation and one count of aggravated child molestation. Nowell is held without bond at the jail.
Police Lt. Joyce Dent-Fitzpatrick of the Special Victims Unit at the Columbus Police Department said Nowell was free on bond in 2012 and awaiting trial when he failed to appear for court in Muscogee Superior Court. He had been on the run for the past five years until his arrest.
He was taken into custody at the Easterling Correctional Facility on Tuesday. Records show that Nowell has been re-indicted on the two charges.
