A man and woman were arrested on burglary charges Saturday morning after he allegedly crashed a car into the Food Mart on Warm Springs Road, according to Columbus police.
Sarah Poe, 36, and Justin McHone, 29, face one count each of second-degree burglary and second-degree criminal damage to property. They were booked into the Muscogee County Jail, where they await a 9 a.m. Wednesday hearing in Columbus Recorder’s Court.
Officers were called to the Food Mart at 4640 Warm Springs Road after the alarm sounded around 4:10 a.m. Saturday.
Authorities said McHone crashed a 2008 Kia Optima into the front doors of the business, causing $10,000 worth of damage to the building. Officers said they saw Poe, who was a passenger in the vehicle, trying to steal cigarettes inside the Food Mart.
According to police, surveillance video also shows her trying to steal the cigarettes.
