Two Columbus men are accused of exchanging an item for credit at Home Depot without ever paying for the merchandise, police said.
Keith Marcel Butler, 54, and Ernest Bernard Mitchell, 51, were both charged with refund fraud and theft by deception after their 9 a.m. arrest. Butler was held at the Muscogee County Jail on more than $700 bond while Mitchell who also faces a conspiracy charge is held on bonds totaling more than $2,600.
Police were called to the 2891 Sowega Drive store on a possible theft in progress. The suspects are accused of entering the store an removing merchandise and taking it to the return counter without paying for the item.
At the counter, one received a credit for almost $134 for the item.
