A woman arrested over the weekend in an online prostitution sting appeared in Columbus Recorder’s Court on Monday while another remained in the hospital.
Alyssa Cochran, 28, of Atlanta, pleaded not guilty to charges of prostitution and possession of marijuana. She waived her preliminary hearing and her case was bound over to State Court.
Dyanna Venable, 26, of Atlanta, who faces the same charges, is in the hospital, court officials said. Sheriff John Darr cited privacy concerns and declined to reveal why she was hospitalized.
Both women were arrested around 9 p.m. Saturday when Columbus police officers contacted the suspects through a phone number they found on a classified advertising website, said Sgt. Bill Gasaway.
The sergeant was directed to the Days Inn, 3452 Macon Road, the same hotel where officers made an online prostitution bust in February.
Once there, the suspects told Gasaway and another officer to go to Room 223. They entered the room, spoke briefly and money exchanged hands. That’s when the conversation turned sexual, and the officers showed their IDs and made the arrests, Gasaway said.
Gasaway tried to make contact with others using the website on Sunday, but no one answered and he got no return calls.
“Word got out probably that some of them got arrested,” he said.
