A preliminary hearing for a Phenix City teacher accused of sexual battery was waived this morning.
Corey Devonne Abercrombie, a 35-year-old English teacher at Central High School, turned himself in to police on a warrant on Friday. He made bond the same day, which negated his hearing in Columbus Recorder’s Court at 9 a.m. this morning.
The charge against Abercrombie stems from an incident that occurred in Columbus on April 29, but no details were given in the police report.
Phenix City Schools Superintendent Larry DiChiara previously said that typically when an employee is charged with a crime, that person is put on paid administrative leave until the district finds out more about the case or the case is resolved.
