Three suspects burst in to a Landmark area home in Lee County early Thursday, escaping in a vehicle as a man fired shots at their car, authorities said.
No one was seriously hurt in the home invasion on Lee Road 307 in the Landmark area, though one person was struck in the head, said Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones.
The three suspects entered the home around 4:30 a.m. CDT. Armed with handguns and either a shotgun or rifle, they took wallets and cash from five people, aged 16 to 23, Jones said.
“They actually struck one of the victims in the back of the head,” he added.
One of the people managed to send a text message to his mother, who in turn contacted her father, Jones said.
“He goes over there,” the sheriff said. “When he arrives, he observes these guys. He shot at them.”
Deputies were called shortly afterward. When they arrived, they found the suspects’ vehicle about two miles from the home. Items from the home were found in side the vehicle, and it appeared that a bullet had struck one of the tires, Jones said.
The suspects remained at large Thursday evening.
“However, we do have some excellent leads and evidence we’re following up on,” Jones said.
