Charles Caudill, a 51-year-old accused of having child pornography on a laptop, pleaded guilty Tuesday to possession of obscene material, authorities said.
Caudill entered his plea before Russell County Circuit Court Judge George Greene, who sentenced him to time served, with a remainder of 15 years on probation, and a $2,500 fine, said Chief Deputy District Attorney Buster Landreau.
Caudill must also register as a sex offender and submit to having DNA samples taken from him, the prosecutor said.
According to Landreau, Caudill pawned a laptop computer in Phenix City in Feb. 2009. He didn’t return in time to claim the item, and the pawn shop prepared to put it up for sale.
That’s when it discovered the images, Landreau added.
The state of Virginia has a hold on Caudill. That means that once he’s released from the Russell County Jail, Virginia authorities will take him into custody, Landreau said.
