Phenix City police have charged two women and three man in the shooting death of John Dwayne Jones who was found with multiple gunshots late Monday.
The suspects were identified as Jonnel Davis, 23, Eric Dansby, 24, Marshekia Knight, 23, and Shawnna Davidson, 30, all of Montgomery, Ala. Each is charged with one count of capital murder and held in the Russell County Jail. The fifth suspect is a juvenile male whose age wasn't released.
Police found the 38-year-old Jones in his 1805 Seventh St. apartment after they were called to the area to check on gunshots fired. He was shot around 11:30 p.m. and pronounced dead of multiple gunshots at 12:55 a.m. as he was transported to the hospital, said Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry Jr. Phenix City Police Capt. Frank Ivey of the department’s Criminal Investigation Division wasn’t available for comment today. The murder still is an active investigation.
Jones was shot inside his apartment. Jones’ body was sent to the Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery, Ala., where an autopsy was conducted.
The victim’s apartment was sealed off with yellow crime scene tape on Tuesday. Near the east side of the apartment complex, a white cross was placed on the hill with a bundle of blue and while balloons.
