Columbus police arrested Ricky L. Cook, 56, and Amy Charlene Fitts, 42, on a felony charge of entering an automobile Friday.
According to a police report and testimony during Saturday’s preliminary hearing in Columbus Recorder’s Court, the owner of a Ford Expedition ran out of the Dollar General store at 4900 River Road when she saw a white male in the driver’s seat and a white female in the passenger seat.
Police Cpl. Dawn Tuning and Officer Donald Knight were dispatched to the scene at 9:14 a.m. They met a witness who said he saw a male suspect running from the Dollar General parking lot as another witness was yelling at him and heading toward the suspect. The witness said the male suspect ran behind the residence at 4916 Drew Ave. The homeowners at that address gave police the name of the owner of a blue van with “Cook” on the side of it.
While police searched the area, a female witness came up 49th Street and told police that a female suspect was with the male suspect and now was sitting on the side of the street. Fitts was taken into custody there.
The arrest report on Cook wasn’t available, so it’s unclear where he was taken into custody.
Judge Michael Joyner assessed bonds of $5,000 for Cook and $2,500 for Fitts and sent their cases to Superior Court.
