A woman with early-onset dementia was reported missing Monday after she apparently got into her car and began driving to Tennessee, according to a Columbus police report.
Officers responded to the 6300 block of Milgen Road Monday morning, where Leon Ward reported that his sister, Barbara Elkins, 59, had been gone from the apartment since 4 p.m. Sunday -- and that it appeared she had packed up her car and driven away.
Elkins' son, a sheriff's deputy in Knoxville, Tenn., told police that his mother has early-onset dementia. Elkins drives a red, 4-door GMC Colorado.
Her probable destination is listed as Heiskell, Tenn.
Officers contacted the local jail and hospital but did not yield any results.
Elkins is described as a white woman with brown hair and eyes, 5'05", thin and wearing glasses. We'll update as more information becomes available.
