A woman and two men are being held in the Cobb County jail on $100,000 bonds after being arrested for first-degree child cruelty this weekend, when four boys, no older than 14, were found in their home "living in filth and in need of medical attention," according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The AJC reports that the brothers, ages 14, 13, 12 and 8, lived in a vermin-infested Austell-area home. The oldest brother had a severe foot injury, but his mother had failed to seek medical treatment.
Police told the paper that the boys had not been attending school and that they did not have the communication skills necessary to be interviewed.
A neighbor told Channel 2 Action News that he didn't even know the home was housing four children.
The boys' mother, uncle and a third man (a convicted rapist and registered sex offender) were arrested Saturday; each is charged with four counts of first-degree child cruelty.
The children are in state custody.
